Bible Comparison

Bible ComparisonIn today’s world, when a person turns to God’s word, it is important that they find it.  The Devil is a master deceiver.  He can make you feel as though you are absolutely at peace being wrong.  He can’t change dirt into ice cream, but he can make you think you are eating the most delicious ice cream when all the time you are eating dirt.  Likewise, he can do the same with the Bible.  He can make you think, beyond a shadow of doubt, that you have the right words of God when all the time you have a counterfeit.  Martin Luther discovered this a long time ago and he was eventually killed for speaking out about it.

Psalm 12:6-7 says, “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.  Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.”

I trust as you look on the Bible Comparison charts included, that you will get some semblance of the deception that Satan has put in place as a policy to cause God’s people to become weak and anemic.  I hope these will open your eyes.

Why the King James Bible Teaching

king james bibleIt doesn’t matter to us which Bible you use, but we teach King James Bible doctrine.  There is a big difference between the King James Bible teachings and the teachings of other bibles.  The Psalmist says: “Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever” (Ps. 119:160).  In Jeremiah 23:36, the Bible says, “For ye have perverted the words of the living God.” So, God’s word will last forever, but there will be people who make perversions.  This is the case that we have in the Christian world today.  Someone is taking living words from the living God and perverting it.

This all has to deal with the subject of final authority.  This the most crucial thing going on in the world today. Why?  Because the issue of final authority determines—absolute truth.

Today, people are being taught that all truth is relative.  Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity digests down to this destructive premise.  It subtly teaches that everyone can have their own truth.  Of course this lends to chaos as everyone becomes their own authority and god.  A christian however, places himself in subjection to the Bible.  However, Jeremiah said somebody took those words and perverted them.  Therefore, it is crucial for the Christian to find the right words of God so he can live by them, and reject the perversions.

The King James Bible is the word of God for several reasons.  These reasons should be looked at and analyzed very carefully.  No true lover of God would want to follow a perversion, or become his own authority for that matter.  The King James Bible is the word of God because:

  • It’s the only bible that doesn’t have a copyright.  If you have a King James Bible in your hand, you have a Book with no copyright on it. You may see a copyright on the notes, references, maps, index, etc., but not on the word of God itself.  Anybody can get a plain King James Bible and there’s no copyright in it.  When King James endorsed it, he placed the Crown Copyright on it, but you don’t have to ask the Crown today for the right to print it. The Crown copyright is different from present day copyright.  King James didn’t copyright it to make money off of it.  he wanted the world to have it freely.  The Crown copyright showed that King James endorsed it, and in Ecclesiastes 8:4 it says, “Where the word of a king is, there is power.” It was copyrighted under a king, showing a king endorsed it.  This is much different than the copyright of today, which involves making money.
  • It is the only Bible which is “Authorized.”  The term “Authorized” is applied to the King James Bible alone.  It is the only Bible which the Holy Spirit has blessed.
  • It was translated under a God-Ordained King (Ecc. 8:4).  AND, the king under whom the Bible was translated has a Jewish name–James.
  • God promised to preserve His word.  He said, “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever” (Psalm 12:6-7).  No one can hide God’s true words from man.  If man wants to find it, there is certainly someplace it can be found. Christ said, “If a man love me, he will keep my words” (John 14:23).  How do you keep His words if you don’t have them? Christ said, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you” (John 15:7). How do you get a prayer promise if you don’t keep His words? Christ said, “He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God” (John 8:47). How do you hear them, if you don’t have them? The Bible says to the preacher, “Preach the word” (2 Tim. 4:2).  How can a preacher preach something he doesn’t have? If God can preserve us unto the day of salvation, then He can certainly preserve what He wrote.
  • It gives preeminence to the Lord Jesus Christ.  All other Bibles attack the deity of Jesus Christ.  Some bibles are quite obvious in their attack on the Lordship of Jesus Christ, while others are more subtle.  For example: the New King James Bible attacks the deity of Christ in Acts 4:27. It says that Jesus Christ was not God’s “child;” He was just God’s “servant.”  Other versions have come up with more blatant and dangerous changes to the scriptures.  The frontal assault is launched against such doctrines as: The Virgin Birth (Isa. 7:14; Luke 1:34; 2:33), The Blood Atonement (Col. 1:14; Acts 20:28; Eph. 1:7; Rev. 1:5), The Resurrection (Acts 1:3; Luke 24), His Deity (Acts 10:28; John 9:35; 1 Tim. 3:16), the Second Coming (Rev. 11:15; Titus 2:13).  These are just a few of examples of the many changes that show the devil’s handiwork in perverting the word of God.  Other “bibles” consistently attack the Lord Jesus Christ.  There is no way they can have any merit.  The King James Bible, on the other hand, never attacks the Lord Jesus Christ (John 5:39).  It does the exact opposite–it EXALTS the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Because the vast majority of all manuscripts validate the King James Bible.  The Textus Receptus (received text) comes from Antioch, Syria, where the disciples were first called Christians.  At times it is called The Majority Text.  This is because there are a vast number of fragments collected from many locations that are all in agreement.  There is a huge amount of these manuscripts (all in agreement) because the early church would copy the writings and distribute them to other believers, who would in turn, copy them and distribute them.  Since the early church did not have the monetary resources of Rome, they were not copied onto sheets of vellum, but onto inferior paper, so they didn’t last the test of time.  The other manuscripts (LXX) come from Alexandria, Egypt, where Rome had great influence.  The LXX comes from only two corrupt manuscripts, known as “Vaticanus” and “Siniaticus.” These manuscripts are full of alterations to meet the demands Rome. They have been determined to be older, but again, they are only few.  Rome having influence in Alexandria, Egypt at that time, these are the adopted manuscripts of the Catholic church.  All new versions are direct translations from these corrupt Catholic manuscripts.  The King James Bible is the only one translated from the Textus Receptus (The Majority Text) which came from Antioch where Christianity began.
  • The honesty of the Translators.  The translators use of italics in the Bible shows the honesty of the translators.  They italicized words they put into the text that do not appear in the original language. Perverted Bible translations do not do this. The translators had the integrity to let us know what was added and what was original.  God says in Revelation 22:18-19, “If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”  Proverbs 30:5-6 says, “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.” Because It Exalts the Lord Jesus Christ.  The translators honored God.
  • It is a perfect translation. The words “translate” and “translated” only occur three times in the Bible (2 Sam. 3:10; Col. 1:13; Heb. 11:5.  Note: The number 3 is God’s number of perfection.). Each time, God is the Translator. Each time, something is going from one situation to a much better situation.  Since God inspired “holy men of God” (II Pet. 1:21) to write down His words in the first place,  He is certainly capable of guiding the translators to keep the words which Jesus told us to keep (John 14:23). It is also apparent by the character of God, that the translation became better than originally penned.
  • It’s fruit is good.  The Lord Jesus said that every good tree will bring forth good fruit, and we can know them BY their fruits (Mt. 7:17-20). God had the bible translated to bring forth good fruit. The perversions produce EVIL fruit. They produce infidels who profess to know God, but in fact they do not.  They spit out spiritual babies one right after the other who completely blind to basic Bible doctrine. However, the King James Bible is validated by the Holy Spirit who bears witness of the truth.
  • All perverted Bibles compare themselves to the King James Bible. They don’t compare themselves with each other.  They all compare themselves to the King James Bible.  This proves there is something special about the King James Bible. Why does everyone oppose the King James Bible and not the others? Satan has no desire to divide his own kingdom (Mt. 12:26). His desire is to discredit the word of GOD, not himself; so he attacks only one Book, God’s Book, the KJV.  Those who join the Devil in opposition to the King James Bible have no Final Authority.  They become their own authority.  I know they look like Christians.  They act, smell, talk, and dress like Christians, but they depend on their own judgment too much, thus becoming their own authority.

Let’s not accept the idea that the Authorized King James is outdated and needs to be replaced for a new translation. Satan knows that newborn babes in Christ will not have the real milk that they need in order to grow because they’ll have a watered down version of the truth. He figures that if he can’t kill the babes, he’ll do the next best thing-stunt their growth. At the same time the world will point to “Christianity” and say, “They don’t even have the same Bible.”

How much do we really know about God’s character?

It is God’s character to be a forgiver of sin.  Most of the time, when we hear this statement, we think about the forgiveness that WE GET and not about God’s character–THE FORGIVER.  God’s character is to think about others.  Man’s character is to think about Himself (Eph. 5:29).  We know all about ourselves, but how much do we really know about God? It is difficult to find Bible teaching that teaches with this very premise as it’s core.  You don’t very often find teachers who try to teach about God’s character and how He feels about things.  Most teaching falls into the trap of human need for satisfaction.  Man likes to know that he gets what he needs to make himself feel better about being a Christian.  However, teaching about the Bible, from God’s point of view, is out there; although it is difficult to find.  Most teaching is motivated by the need for money or popularity.  The teachers know this and that is why most extremely popular, media induced, Bible teaching is popular–because people hear what they want to hear to nourish and cherish his own self. There is nothing wrong with feeling good.  After all, it is an emotion that God put in us.  But He didn’t put it inside of us to be abused.  He put it in us so we can understand how He can feel, just as He put: hate, fear, remorse and sadness.  We are made in all of the image of God, not just the ones that we want to claim.  Man has abused the emotions that make us feel good by popularizing “feel good” churches.  So, he says, “if I feel good, and everything is positive, then I am identifying with God, but if it is negative and I feel conviction for my sin, then I am not identifying with God.”  This kind of thinking comes about from not grasping the truth that man is just a created being and God is the Creator. Man is nothing without God.  There is not even a thought that man can have without the awesome guiding, and direction of God.  Man is totally subject to God in everything.  There is not a breath our body takes without God moving the lungs.  There is not a beat of our heart that does not receive it’s power from God.  We are unabatedly subject to God. Why then did God give us the Bible?  We thought it was because He was giving us instruction on how to live.  True, but it is much more than that.  The Bible reveals  God’s character. New Tribes Missions author Trevor Mcllwain described it best when he said, “it is God’s love letter to us, telling us about Himself.”  Yes, He is instructing us about Himself, but all we see is how much we are not like Him.  He is showing us how He originally intended the relationship of Creator–creation to be.  It was supposed to be a wonderful relationship of God with man (the image of God) who could completely understand and identify with Him.  But man does not see it that way.  Man sees God as some kind of magic Genie who comes out to grant his wishes when he calls for him, then goes back into his bottle until he is needed again. God’s forgiveness of sin, especially this sin, speaks loudly about His character.  If we just consider ourselves as nothing, and God as everything, we can see God’s character.  If we can put ourselves out of the way long enough to learn something about God’s character, we will be much better off.  Then, we can begin living the Christian life.  Not the “Christian life” as the world supposes it to be.  The Christian life as God indented it to be.

The Parallel Gospels of Christ

Ron Coale

Rev. Ron Coale, Pastor

The Parallel Gospels gives a four sided view of the Lord Jesus Christ’s life. Each view is revealed in the writings of the four different gospel authors. Each contains subtle nuances when recording the same accounts.

  • Matthew sees Jesus as the King.
  • Mark sees Jesus as the servant.
  • Luke sees Jesus as a man.
  • John sees Jesus as God.

Anything can be better understood when looked at it from different perspectives. So can the life of Jesus Christ. God knows this.  That is why He commissioned four different accounts of Jesus’ life.

In addition showing the accounts in parallel, all gospels are arranged in chronological order as well.

I assembled a book years ago showing the gospels in parallel as well as chronological order.  I called it The Parallel Gospels.  It has been a great study tool for me. I refer to it whenever I need to see what the other gospels writers said about a subject. It helps me to get a more rounded view of what really happened.

Because I have all too often been asked, “Where can I get a copy of this book?”, I have finally published it on Kindle.  You can now purchase it there.

As it is for me, I am sure The Parallel Gospels will be a valuable tool for you in your study of the Life of Jesus Christ.  I hope that it gives you many years of help in your study.  I know it will be a blessing to you.

What The World Needs Now

1 John 4:1-3 says, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.”

The world seems to be going to hell in a handbasket.  As we talk to those who are older than us and they tell us how the world used to be, it seems that things really couldn’t get much worse.  In the last year it seems that things have been accelerating, like the gas pedal for progress has been stuck and we can’t get the transmission back in neutral.  It seems like we are bound head long for disaster.

As the economoy falls down around us with prices rising, hours being cut back, jobs being lost, despair takes over and hope waines.  The proud steps of advancement are turning into so many stumbles.  How did this come about?  It is a wholesale turning away from the Creator.  It has been a change that has slowly crept up upon society which seems to have suddenly sprung wide open, but this is not so,  it has been steadly changing all along.

Change is a good thing if it is in the right direction, but no change that moves away from the Lord Jesus Christ is good. Any change in that direction is doomed to failure.  Now, more than ever, the world needs change, but that change is not a political change; it is not a social change; it is not an economic change: it is a spiritual change.  It is a change of direction beginning at the personal level and then growing through the family level to the associates level which will affect the community and sift up to affect the nation.

The Nation needs change!  The World needs Change!  And it needs change now—change in the right direction!  Change that no man can promise us.  It is a subtle lie to think that change lies within us if we pool our collective talents together.  It is a lie to think that shareing our wealth can bring about the change that we need.  My friends—NO WE CAN’T do it, but THE LORD JESUS CHRIST CAN!  And, any change outside of Him is just man trying to elevate Himself to the point of godhood, when mans record over the annals of time shows that he can do nothing for himself.  Now, more than ever, the world needs change; change in three parts:

First we need physical change.  We need to go back to where we used to be when we were receiving the great blessings of God.  If we stayed with God in the first place, we would have been better off.  The Bible says that we should “…meddle not with them that are given to change:” (Pro 24:21).  If its good and you change it, it can only get better or worse.  These are the only direction change can take.  Where are we now as a nation?  Better off or worse off?  What are some physical things we can do to affect the positive change that we really need?

I believe that we, as a nation, need more Churches.  The Bible says in 1 Timothy 3:15 “But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.”  Churches are folding up at an alarming rate.  More men are quitting the ministry than there are who are getting into it.  Without churches, there is no place for people to go to get instruction and training in the Lord.  Not only that, the church provides a place of fellowship with like minded believers.  Without churches, there is no training up the next generation for the Lord; there is an absence of morality being taught to our posteriety.  There is no use worring about them having money to spend if there is no morality governing their actions.

Churches are the only place that people can go to learn about right and wrong, truth and lies, morality and immorality, hope and disparity, life and death, from the right perspective and without interference from the government and political cronies.  Without churches, our society would quickly fall into anarchy and that’s why the Devil would like to close all churches.

We also need more Bibles.  Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”  We don’t need more different versions of the Bible, we need more access and availability of the Pure word of God—The King James Bible (Psalm 12:6-7).  Even though the text is not copywritten, so-called “Christian Book Stores” have very few King James Bibles available.  They push the NIV or the ASV or any other version except the Bible version that pioneered this country; the one that is promised to be preserved by God; the one that is named after a King with a Jewish name; the only one that boldly proclaims the word: “AUTHORIZED;” the one that clearly proclaims a trinity; the one that preaches the blood sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ; the one that was not translated from Catholic manuscripts; the one that the martyrs died for.  Should I go on?  We need more doctrince being preached from this monarch of Books—the King James Bible.

We need more Displays of the Ten Commandments in our schools and public fascilities.  Deuteronomy 6:9 commands us: “And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.”  Taking the Ten Commandments out of our schools and public buildings is the beginning of forgetting about God.  It is like putting your head in the sand regarding the presence of God in our society.  It shows the world that this nation is not serious about their thankfulness to God for it’s birth.

The atheist may think they are cool for all of their innovative ways of getting attention, but there is a reckoning coming.  God’s standard does not change.  If you take them out of society, that does not get rid of God; it only deprives the younger generation of the knowledge that you were privileged to have.  Taking a speeding ticket that you received and tearing it up and putting it in the fire does not negate your responsibility for paying the fine.

We need more Witnesses.  Hebrews 12:1-2 says, “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

The more witnesses we have, the easier it is to run the race.  The easier it is to live for the Lord.  When there are few witnesses to how you are living your life, there is little accountability and it is easier to sin.  That is why social networking is so popular; you can say things to people that you would otherwise not say face to face.

We need more witnesses for the Lord.  Society wants us to think that they have the upper hand; they want us to think that we are outnumbered, but the battle is already won.  Our captian has won the victory and has been a burr in their saddle ever since He proved it with His resurrection.  They can’t stand it.  It just makes them so mad they could spit.  We need the saints to realize that there is a great message to proclaim.  Pull out all of the stops.  Go on the offensive.  Put Jesus in every aspect of society.  Call people randomly and tell them about Jesus.  Mail them a letter, hold up a sign, hand out a tract, go door to door, give a word of encouragement.  Tell them the good news.  Excersize our rights as Christians.

We need more dedication to family.  Try as they may, the family unit is not dead.  Those who pervert it would have us to believe that it has changed and no longer exists, but it is thriving.  There are not as many perverts as they would have us to believe.  We need to stick together as families.  That is a father, mother and children.  It is not a father-father or mother-mother.  The definition of family can never change no matter what is done to the dictionary.  Family was established by GOD and that history can never be erased.  That makes them mad.  It makes them so angry they lose their minds.  That is why they are so violent, aggressive and looney.  They don’t think right; they don’t think straight.  They even proclaim themselves to be crooked/perverted every time they call us “straight”.  Well the Bible says to “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” (Matt 7:13-14).  Martin Luther King Jr. said that, “the church must be reminded that it is not the master or the servant of the state, but rather the conscience of the state.”

As long as we have freedom, we need to take advantage of it.  More Christians need to take advantage of their liberty in Christ.  John 8:36 says, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”  The Devil would have us believe that being a Child of God means living under the crushing weight of the thumb of God.  Oh, on the contrary, to come to the Lord Jesus Christ is to have freedom like none other.  It is freedom from the claws of the Devil and His crowd and it was purchased for us by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ on Calvary.  He bought you with a price (1 Cor. 6:20) and then set you free.  You are owned by Him but not enslaved by Him.  You are set free!

Of their free will and volition, Christians happily serve Him out of love and a deep sense of gratitude.  The world cannot understand that.  They are kicking and scratching, lying and deceiving, maneuvering and influencing each other to get higher and higher in society when Christians have already arrived.  They are the happy children of the King—the creator of all things.

We need more application of God’s word.  James 1:25 tells us, “But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”  Its not enough to just hear God’s word preached; its not enough to read God’s word, it must be put into practice.  God wants us to love the world in spite of all of its wickedness; in spite of all of it’s stupidity; in spite of all of it’s ignorance, we were once there.  Now, we have an education that answers all of the questions of life; answers that the world just does not have.

The first application of God’s word is to get saved.  Then to grow in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.  The reason that the world thinks that Christians are supposed to be these “lovey-dovey,” “tip-toe through the tulip” kind of “sickening sweet” Christians is because they have never read the Book.  They are just ignorant and foolish, prejudice and biased.  Apply God’s word.  Tell them how to get saved and then read the Book and live by it.  Love your God in Heaven first and then your neighbor as you love yourself and don’t ever get it out of order.

“We teach what we know;  we reproduce what we are.” Robert Schmidgall.  Romans 8:6 tells us, “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”

We need more growth in the Lord.  1 Corinthians 3:2-3 says, “I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. 3For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisionsa, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?”  Spiritual change can only be affected by growing up in the Lord.  There are too many spiritual babies in society today.  They are full of fluff.  They live off of the milk of God’s word while ignoring the meat.  They have not developed or grown and when they are fed meat of God’s word, they choke on it.  They are critical and selfish.  If there is going to be any spiritual change or maybe even revival, we need to have more spiritual soldiers for the Lord.  That can only be done by feeding them a stronger and stronger diet of spiritual food and get away from the milk of God’s word.  What the world needs now is more growth in the Lord.

We need more people saved.  In 1 Timothy 2:4 we read, “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”  God wants everybody to be saved.  Saved from a life of eternal separation from Him.  He created man to have fellowship with Him.  It is not just: “Your God” or “My God,”  He is everyone’s God and just because people don’t accept Him, does not change that fact.  If there is going to be any real change in this world, we need more people saved.

There needs to be more exalting of the Lord Jesus Christ.  He said, “And I, if I be lifted up, from the earth, will draw all men unto me” (John 12:32).  The world is bent on lifting itself up.  They lift up their intelligence, beauty, position, health, and anything else they can to make themselves powerful.  But the Lord Jesus Christ has all of the power that there is.  He is already above all people but they just don’t reckon it.  We need national leadership who is not afraid to pray.  Someone with a lilttle guts; a little grit.  Someone with a little experience.  Someone who is not ashamed to reckognize that this country was founded out of a deep commitment for the Lord Jesus Christ and His word.

We need preachers and churches who are not afraid to stand for the principles of God’s word and not keep searching for a Bible what appeases the masses so they can build their spiritual empire.  We need Christians who are not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ and know that it is the power of God unto salvation (Rom 1:16).  What the world needs now is a healthy exhaltation of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Winston Churchill said, “a fanatic is someone who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject.”

What the world needs now is more prayer to God.  We don’t need to get all lined up and bow down in a “line-dancing” specticale.  We need true praying to the true God.  Not “whatever you perceive God to be.”  He is a true God.  A real God.  There should be NO restrictions to who can pray to Him or where they can pray to Him or when they can pray to Him.  He is real and we have access to Him anytime we want if we sincerely seek Him and not the admiration of any man.  If there is to be any real change in the world, we need to be able to pray to God.  Don’t speak to us hypocritically about “open and transparency” or “freedom of speech” while trying to stifle open and free communication with the Creator of the Universe and all things contained therein.  It just doesn’t make sense unless, “open and transparent” or “freedom of speech” means, “I get to say what I want and the rest of you SHUT UP!”

We certainly need more of Christ in the nation!  2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 says, “And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; 10When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.”

What the world needs now is not love, it is Jesus.  The world has had it’s chance and it is not going to change.  It needs the Lord Jesus Christ to come back.  Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. (Hebrews 13:8)  There is no change that this world needs other than to go back to living under the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ.  If this change is not made, then there is no hope.  ~Pastor Coale

How to study the Bible

Many people know very little about the Bible.  What they do know about the Bible, they did not learn from the Bible itself.  They have learned from teachers, books, radio, or other people.  But, they never actually opened the Bible and learned from it.  They have made their opinion about the Bible from the opinions of other men and not from the Bible itself.  Many people have an opinion about the Bible, but they have not even seen a Bible.  The Bible is a big book.  A person can spend all of his life enjoying it.  I want to help you to make an opinion about the Bible from the Bible itself and to understand it.  But, mostly, I want to help you to see that it is God’s personal message to each of us.

God gave us the Bible because He wants us to know who He is.  In fact, the main subject of the Bible is God.  It’s not just a book of teachings about God.  It is a story about history as seen from God’s point of view, from the beginning to the end.  Because man is a part of history, the Bible also teaches us many things about mankind and man’s relationship with God.

When studying the Bible, you must start in the beginning and work our way it.  You should start in the book of Genesis.  Genesis is the first book of the Bible; thus, it is a very important book.  You cannot completely understand the truths about the Bible unless you understand some things about Genesis first.  If your understanding of Genesis is good, much of the rest of the Bible will easily “come into focus.”

2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”

All of the Word of God was given to us by God’s inspiration. God had the inspiration to write down a message and He used men called “prophets.”  He gave them the exact message that He wanted written down.  Sometimes God spoke to them out loud, sometimes in visions, and sometimes He put the message directly into their heads.  Then, God caused them to write down exactly what He had said.  This is where critics might just say, “Then the Bible was really written by men.  So, it’s man’s ideas and not God’s.”  We can know that the Bible is not man’s idea because it tells us so in 2 Peter 1:20-21 which says, “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”  It is God’s idea and God’s Words.  It is not the private idea of any man.  It is the only book in the world that is written by God Himself.

God took 1,600 years to write the Bible, and He used 40 different people to write it.  But, even though God used so much time and so many people to write it, the Bible has perfect unity from beginning to end.  Why?  It has this unity because God is the one and true author of the Bible.  If many people went to a meeting, they would all see the same meeting, but would they all have the same opinion?  If we asked a person what was the most important thing that they saw in the meeting, not everyone would say the same thing.  They would each have a different story to tell about the same meeting.  Many different people wrote the Bible.  They were not all together in one place like the people in a meeting.  No!  The people that God used came from very different cultures.  They even came from different times.  Many of them never even knew each other.  But, when we read the Bible, it appears to be one story, one book.  It has perfect unity.  How can one book have perfect unity when so many people wrote it over a 1,600-year period of time?  There is only one answer – the Bible has only one author: God!

Isaiah 43:1, 10 says, “But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.  10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.”

The author of the Bible is God, that God caused men called “prophets” to write down His Word.  But, how did it come to be the book that we see today?  God gave us His message through the Jewish people first.  In fact, all of the people that God used to write the Bible were Jewish except one.  His name was Luke, and he was a Gentile.  (A Gentile is anyone who is not Jewish.)  God wanted the whole world to receive His message through the Jewish people.  At first, God used the prophets to write down His message.  These original documents wore out from use and old age.  So, new copies were made.  These copies were made by hand and were done very carefully.  Copies were made and given to other people.  They also would copy it and then give the copy to still another.  Even though this was all done by hand, there are more ancient manuscripts of the Bible than any other document.  These manuscripts have been found through archeology.  In fact, there are many that have been found.  All of these ancient manuscripts are almost exactly the same.  They only differ in very small details.

The original texts of the Bible were written in one of three different languages: Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic.  In the time that Christ was on the earth, the scrolls (Bible) were kept in the temple.  Only a few people were able to have copies of these texts.  Most of the time, if the people wanted to hear them, they needed to go to the temple and listen to them being read.  As time passed, God caused men to begin translating the manuscripts into other languages.  Copies of these were sent from place to place for the people to read.  Today, the Bible has been translated into more languages than any other book in the world.

Psalm 119:89 says, “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.”

One study of history is called archaeology.  It is when people dig into the earth to find ancient information about ancient cultures.  Many discoveries have proved the accuracy of the Bible.  The archaeologists have found things that agree with what the Bible says, even to the smallest detail.  In fact, there are thousands of discoveries that have been found that ALL support the accuracy of the Bible.  There are still new things being discovered today, and each new discovery adds to the support of the Bible.  This can only prove that the Bible is not man’s book; it is God’s book.  Books that man has written will often change.  Even history books are rewritten.  But, the Bible has never changed because God, who knows everything, wrote it.

The Bible is not just another “religious” book.  Many people have written books trying to tell others about God.  God wrote the Bible.  In it, He tells us what He is like and who He is.  He tells us about Himself and about ourselves, about our relationship with Him.  It is a special book that answers the questions:

  • Where did I come from?
  • Why am I here on this earth?
  • Where am I going from here?

It is a book that answers the question about “Absolute Authority,” and who has it.  It teaches us what authority is and what our relationship is to it.

Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

It is important for us to read and study the Bible because it is God’s personal message to each one of us.  It is like God’s voice speaking to us, teaching us about ourselves. It is the only book in which God Himself teaches us how to live in the world today.  It is the only book in which God Himself tells us what He thinks, feels, and wants us to know.  God wrote it to give to each one of us:  young, old, boy, girl, man, and woman.
