He is the Lord

Lord Jesus

Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

The Lord Jesus clearly warns that doing good works is not enough to allow a person to go to heaven.  Yes they are good things to do, but they will not “earn” passage through heaven’s gates.  The first and utmost requirement is to do the will of the Father which is in heaven.  If that is not accomplished, everything else has no meaning at all.

What is the will of the Father?  It is that we come to him based on the merit of Jesus Christ.  That means to understand we are sinners who cannot pay for our sin; to understand that the Father accepted the Lord Jesus Christ’s payment for our sin; and that if we accept that payment for us, then based on Jesus’ faith, God will forgive us and allow us in.

Too many people put emphasis on doing good works to go to heaven.  They like to keep control of their destiny.  But, my friend, you must put your destiny into the hands of Jesus Christ.  He is the Saviour.
